New President and Council elected
The ACT Law Society has a new president, with Rob Reis elected to the position for 2024-25.
Rob’s election, along with the returned and new members of Council, was announced at the Society’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday 14 November 2024.
Rob has worked in the legal sector for 38 years, and currently is a lawyer at the ACT Legal Aid Office.
Rob previously worked at the Society for 17 years as Professional Standards Manager.
In his new role as President, Rob will act as the primary spokesperson for the Society, representing Society members and the Council, and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer who oversees daily operations.
As President, Rob will chair the Executive Committee, with responsibility for ensuring the effective performance of the Executive Committee and of the Council.
Mr Reis will be supported by the Council’s two Vice-Presidents, Vik Sundar and Andrew Allan. Mr Sundar is continuing in his capacity as Vice-President, while Mr Allan is newly elected to the role having served on Council for two years.
The Society wishes to sincerely thank outgoing President Lisa Quilty for the leadership she has provided to Council and the Executive Committee in her time as President. Ms Quilty was appointed President in January 2024, after previously serving as Vice-President since 2023 and on Council since 2021. Ms Quilty will remain an active member of Council, serving as Immediate Past President.
The Society also acknowledges Georgia Briggs who stepped down from her role as Vice President in which she served over the past year as Chair of the Council, and as a Council member since 2021, and Amy Pyett who concluded her first term as a Council member.
The full list of new and continuing Council members is available on the Society’s website at https://actlawsociety.asn.au/about/governance/the-council/council-and-executive-members.
