Advocacy Framework

ACT Law Society Advocacy Framework

The ACT Law Society advocates on matters of law reform and legal practice to promote the proper administration of justice and uphold the rule of law in the ACT. This advocacy work sits within the Society's Representation pillar under its Strategic Plan.

To support a clear, principled and consistent approach to advocacy, the Society has adopted an Advocacy Framework. The Framework outlines how the Society identifies and prioritises issues, develops advocacy positions, and engages with government and other justice system stakeholders.

The Framework applies to all advocacy activities undertaken by the Society, including policy development and submissions, stakeholder engagement, and public advocacy.

Purpose of the Framework

The Advocacy Framework guides:

  • the development of advocacy positions and policy submissions
  • engagement with government, courts and other justice stakeholders
  • the work of the Society's advisory committees

The Framework also provides transparency for members and stakeholders by setting out how and why the Society engages in advocacy, and the principles that underpin its priorities and positions.
