New ACT Special Magistrates welcomed

The Law Society today offered a warm welcome to the ACT’s newly-appointed Special Magistrates.

ACT Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury today announced the appointment of former NSW Magistrate Paula Russell and Sydney barrister Thomas Jones as Special Magistrates of the ACT Magistrates Court.

“On behalf of the ACT legal profession, the Society would like to offer Special Magistrates Russell and Jones a warm welcome to Canberra,” said Law Society President Elizabeth Carroll.

“We are also pleased that Special Magistrates Margaret Hunter OAM and Dr Anthony Hopkins have had their appointments extended. Special Magistrates serve an important role at the Court, giving the Chief Magistrate additional resources to address surge demands, as well as allowing more flexibility for covering leave or judicial conflicts.”
