"What Are We Not Talking About?" is a free series of virtual lunchtime chats, hosted by the ACT Law Society’s Inclusion and Diversity Committee, about the elephant in the room — how do we go about achieving an inclusive and diverse legal profession? Every month, a new speaker will introduce a topic and lead a discussion with participants. These informal webchats will also be an opportunity for legal professionals and law students who are interested in inclusion and diversity issues to connect with like-minded peers.
If you are interested in presenting at a What are we not talking about? online chat session, please send an email to Carissa.Webster@actlawsociety.asn.au.
The Older Persons ACT Legal Service (OPALS) is a specialist service within Legal Aid ACT which provides legal advice and assistance to older people in the ACT. This session will look at some of the main issues faced by older people and the ways OPALS is assisting this sector of the community. The session will be delivered by Liz Samra, a solicitor working in the OPALS team.
Elizabeth Samra has extensive experience working with older people and has been active in advocating for the rights of older people for almost a decade. Prior to moving to the ACT, Elizabeth was the Principal Solicitor of a specialist elder abuse legal and advocacy service in Victoria. She is currently a solicitor at the Older Persons ACT Legal Service at Legal Aid ACT and a member of the ACT Law Society’s Elder Law and Succession Law Committee.
