Christmas closure times

The staff and Council of the ACT Law Society wish you all the very best for the holiday season.

Members please note that office of the ACT Law Society will be closed from 12pm on Wednesday 13 December 2023 for our staff Christmas celebration.

Additionally, the offices of the Law Society and the Settlements Office will close at 12.30pm on Friday 22 December 2023 and will reopen on Monday 8 January 2024. If members need to contact us urgently, staff will be monitoring emails periodically.


Courts and Tribunals

ACT Supreme Court: The Law Term for 2023 will conclude on Friday 15 December 2023. The Law Term for 2024 will commence on 29 January 2024. On Monday 29 January 2024 the Supreme Court will commence hearing all matters at 11:00am. 

ACT Magistrates Court: Lists conclude at 1pm on Thursday 21 December 2023, sittings to recommence Thursday 11 January 2024. Registry closing 1pm on Friday 22 December 2023, reopening 9am on Tuesday 2 January 2024. A duty magistrate will hear bail determinations and emergency care proceedings in accordance with legislative requirements every day except 25 December 2023, and a registrar will hear applications for interim family and personal violence orders up to the close of registry on 22 December 2023 and will recommence on 2 January 2024. 

Federal Court of Australia: Court sittings end Friday 16 December 2023 and commence Monday 5 February 2024.

Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia: ACT registry will close be closed from Monday 25 December 2023, reopening Friday 5 January 2024.

ACAT: The ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT) will close at 12:30pm on Friday, 22 December 2023 and re-open at 9:00am on Tuesday, 2 January 2024. 


Legal assistance services

Domestic Violence Crisis Service: Crisis intervention team is operating 24/7 over the shutdown period.

Legal Aid ACT: Offices will be closed from Monday 25 December 2023 and will reopen on Monday 8 January 2024, with some essential services available during that time.
