Proposed amendments to Solicitors' Conduct Rules

The Society is pleased to confirm that a consultation process has now commenced on proposed amendments to the Legal Profession (Solicitors) Conduct Rules 2015.

The proposed amendments endorsed in principle by the ACT Law Society Council on 19 September 2022, aim to ensure the ACT’s legal framework remains current, consistent with national standards, and responsive to the evolving legal landscape.

The amendments are part of a broader effort to:

  • Align the ACT’s rules with the Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules (ASCR) as revised by the Law Council of Australia;

  • Promote consistency across jurisdictions, reducing complexity for legal practitioners; and

  • Clarify professional obligations in light of technological and procedural developments.

A full version of the amended Rules and information about how to make a submission to the Society is available at this link.

The consultation period will run from 13 June 2025 – 4 July 2025
