Law Society welcomes return of jury trials in Canberra

The ACT Law Society welcomes the announcement by the Chief Justice of the ACT Supreme Court, Helen Murrell, that jury trials will recommence on 15 June 2020.

Jury trials were suspended in order to follow government guidelines on social distancing in light of the COVID-19 emergency.

The President of the Law Society, Chris Donohue, said "The Society is satisfied that the Court will apply appropriate measures to implement such trials in a safe and effective manner. We urge all legal practitioners, and any others involved in such trials, to ensure they fully comply with the measures put in place by the Court."
