Hearsay 04-2021

Hearsay is the Law Society's fortnightly e-newsletter, sent out to all members. Reproduced here is the news section of Hearsay — other sections have been omitted.

Interested in joining a Committee?

The Law Society encourages members to participate in our policy and advocacy program by volunteering to serve on a committee. Our policy advisory committees cover a range of legal areas, and serve the ACT legal profession and the wider community by contributing comments on law reform and proposed legislation, and education.

You can see a full list of committees, and read about their recent work, on our website. If you are interested in serving on a committee, send us an expression of interest from your member dashboard, or use the linked form below. Read More +

Practising Certificate renewals starting soon

Please make sure your contact details are up to date on your member dashboard before the practising certificate renewal period commences in May. It's vital that we have your current contact details so we can email you your renewal instructions.

In line with the Law Society's ongoing commitment to sustainability, practising certificates will now be issued electronically as the default (however paper copies will still be available on request, and you can download a PDF for your own records).

Simply log in and follow the instructions on your Member Dashboard

Most of these changes (apart from the changes to education provider occupancy agreements) are due to commence on 3 March 2021. To help support community understanding of these changes, JACS has produced a number of fact sheets and will also be hosting online forums to explain the changes. Read More +
